What is IELTS?

The IELTS exam is your gateway to overseas study. It is widely recognized in the UK and Australia and also by many universities and immigration offices in the USA and Canada. You can take IELTS four times each month – either on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – in Taiwan. Book an IELTS exam at Whygo or contact us for an IELTS test date in your area.

Different IELTS exams are required, according to your unique situation. To study IELTS in the UK, choose IELTS Life Skills A1 and B1 or UKVI IELTS. Standard IELTS for USA and standard IELTS for Australia are acceptable.

Which IELTS should I take?

Take the academic IELTS test to work or study abroad in an English speaking country. IELTS band 6 to IELTS band 7 are suitable for undergraduate study abroad in English.

Take the IELTS General Training test for immigration to an English speaking country (IELTS for Australia, IELTS for Canada, IELTS for New Zealand or IELTS for UK). The IELTS General Training test is also for training or study below degree level.

Each organization sets its own entry requirements. In some cases either IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training may be accepted. Contact Whygo for help if you are unsure which IELTS is better.

IELTS Scoring System

The IELTS scoring system is recognized globally, making the IELTS a truly international test. IELTS band 0 is the lowest score in IELTS (for those who did not attempt the test). IELTS band 9 means your are an expert user of English and is the highest band. Most universities accept scores between 6–7 as being suitable for undergraduate study in English. The IELTS 9-band scoring system is consistent, bench-marked against other English language tests and internationally recognized. IELTS test materials are designed carefully so that every version of the test is the same scale of difficulty.

How to Calculate Overall Band Score

Your IELTS overall score is the average of the IELTS four modules: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Round to the nearest whole or half band for your overall IELTS score. All four IELTS modules are of equal value. To calculate your overall IELTS score, add your listening, speaking, reading and writing score and divide by 4. If your IELTS score ends in .25 or .75, round up to the next half band or whole band respectively. Continue reading to learn about Whygo IELTS preparation courses or book an IELTS class now.
